🥘 COZIDO SEASON

The Cozido à Portuguesa is winter comfort in a pot. A slow-cooked medley of meats, sausages, and hearty seasonal vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and turnips. It’s one of those dishes that feels less like a meal and more like a warm embrace on a cold Lisbon day.

With a little help from locals, we’ve rounded up some of the best spots in the city to try it.

Just remember, cozido is often a weekly special, so check the day before heading over.

  1. Tasquinha do Lagarto ·📍 Rua de Campolide · 🗓️ Wednesdays

Steam, soul, and slow-cooked goodness. Wednesdays are for cozido at Tasquinha do Lagarto.

A true Lisbon classic near Campolide, Tasquinha do Lagarto is where locals go for no-frills, full-flavour Portuguese comfort food.

Their Cozido à Portuguesa, served every Wednesday, is rich, traditional, and best enjoyed with a glass of red and plenty of time to linger. Expect generous portions.

  1. O Cantinho do Alfredo ·📍 Rua Gen. Taborda · 🗓️ Thursdays

Where time slows down and recipes haven’t changed in decades.

Hidden in Benfica, O Cantinho do Alfredo is the kind of family-run gem where recipes haven’t changed in decades, and for good reason.

Their Cozido à Portuguesa, served on Thursdays only, is slow-cooked to perfection, hearty without being heavy, and served with the kind of hospitality that makes you feel like a regular by the second visit.

  1. Os Courenses ·📍 Rua José Duro · 🗓️ Thursdays and Saturdays

Rustic, rich, and perfectly unpretentious, cozido the Alcântara way.

Tucked away in Alcântara, Os Courenses serves up one of Lisbon’s most beloved Cozidos.

Available on Thursdays and Saturdays, their version is generous, rustic, and deeply flavourful. It’s everything a Cozido should be: unpretentious, comforting, and best enjoyed slowly with good company.
